We will be arriving in Geneva on June 13th from Lyon and will be taking the train to Vevey and then onward to Wengen and from there to Zurich. It seems that the best deal is to get the Half Fare card as it also gives 50% off Schilitthorn and Jungfrau as well as half off the individual rail tickets. Is this the better deal?

Finally I’m planning on buying the Half Fare card at the Geneva train station and booking my tickets there as I have heard there is no need to buy tickets in advance as the trains do not fill up. Is this true or should I buy the Half Fare card online and book my train tickets online as well…is it cheaper to buy the train tickets online as opposed to at the train station?

    Thanks!

Hi Wilocrek and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Is the Swiss Half Fare Card a better deal than any other rail pass?

You’ll need to find prices of all the trips you are planning and do the math to compare. Have a read through our page here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass

Tickets or rail passes do not sell out (even if a train is full at say rush hour….you can always buy a ticket and board the train as there is always room to stand).

I would however at least buy the Swiss Half Fare Card online. This way you don’t need to go into the office to buy the pass (saving you time) and you can get it emailed to you to print at home (so you have a backup copy to print out again if you lose it). https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisshalffarecar d/price

You can buy tickets in advance as well with the Swiss Half Fare Card discount here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/traintickets/swi tzerlandhalffare which can also save you time. Tickets can also be bought at machines at the rail stations if needed.
