We will be in Lucern March 31 to April 3. We plan to visit Rigi by boat from Lucern then depart at Vitznau to take the rack railway up to Rigi. Is the rack railway open at this time? After walking around Rigi, we would then take the cable car back down to Weggis to the boat back to Lucern. Have I planned this correctly? Thank you for any advice you can provide.

To get the cable way you have to take the train, or walk, back down the hill to Rigi Kaltbad.

Thanks for your help and information given. Further questions>

Any boat ride available from Montrex? Can we take a ferry/boat from Montrex to Vevey? Is it boat ride free with STP?

    Hello John,

It would help you to get better answers if you started a new thread for your question rather than introducing a completely different topic on an existing thread.

Briefly, the map you will find at http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity will show you the boats on Lake Geneva is covered by the STP. In order to get the most out of your pass you should make sure you are familiar with that map. Also have a look at http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakegeneva.

The Weggis cable car is closed on your dates.

In any case, the better round trip is to use both rack railways (Arth – Rigi (ARB) = blue coloured, Vitznau – Rigi (VRB) = red coloured).

You go Luzern – Vitznau (boat) – Rigi – Arth Goldau – Luzern. Arth Goldau – Luzern is on a main line train. Or you can do it the other way round

my picture of ARB and VRB together at the top attached

Good pick up 1960man. Your suggested route is better in any event.

We are also thinking of going to Rigi on April 24th in the afternoon.

Would the cable car be operational then.?

    Thanks,
