Hello! I tried really hard to figure this out myself but the various rail pass options are confusing to me. Here is what I would like to do:

Day 1 – train Zurich to Lucerne

Day 2 – Gotthard Panorama Express Lucerne to Lugano, then train Lugano to Milan

Can someone direct me to which tickets I should buy? Thank you so much!

    Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! For day two I’d look into the 1st class Saver Day Pass, which will save you quite some money if you buy well in advance: http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass. Additionally you need a reservation for the Gotthard Panorama Express train: http://www.myswissalps.com/go tthardpanoramaexpress/ tickets.

The Saver Day Pass includes the boat too, and any train from Lugano to the border (Chiasso). Additionally you need a ticket from Chiasso to Milan: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/italy/price.

For day one a regular ticket or Supersaver ticket will be fine: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland.

Arno, you are the best! This is so helpful. Just so I understand:

For Day 1: just buy a single ticket from Zurich to Lucerne.

For Day 2: The Saver Day Pass will include Gotthard Panorama from Lucerne to Lugano (both the boat and train), as well as train from Lugano to Chiasso. All I will have to do is add the Gotthard reservation. Otherwise I can just use the Saver Day Pass to board everything without paying extra?

    Thank you!!!

    You’re welcome!

Day 1: Correct. And the Supersaver ticket may work if you are sure about your departure time (it’s cheaper, but only valid for one specific train).

Day 2: Correct, don’t forget the ticket for the Italian leg though. And don’t forget you will need 1st class for that train.

    Have fun!
