I have a short hiking vacation scheduled for July 28-31. I am currently scheduled to base out or Murren. The forecast is showing day after day of rain. Should I keep my plans or reschedule to a hiking region with more favorable forecast and if so where could I relocate to. I am flying into Zurich. Please offer any advice.

Hi Bayforest and welcome to MySwissAlps

No serious weather forcast can be done in the Alps two weeks ahead of time. Indeed, it could rain, but no one can be sure.

If experiencing the Alps and hiking is important for you, then stay with your plan. You would be so sorry if the weather turns out to be sunny! If the weather turns out to be lousy don’t hike alone.

Landscape by cloudy weather can be attractive, too, as beautifully shown by the photographer, Nuno Nobrega.

If you hate rain so much, then from Mürren you can go to Schilthorn and watch the Alps from the restaurant, and/or to Jungfraujoch and do the same.

Of course, Zurich has many museums and an exciting nightlife.

I’m sure you’ll have an exciting time!

    Hi Bayforest,

I agree with Snowman that the weather forecast is always most reliable on short-term, especially in the Alps.

To keep an eye on the weather, read below link:

I use the MeteoSWISS app you’ll find here:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/ab outswitzerland/practic al/websites

If you want to look into destinations offering both nice hikes AND rainy-day alternatives, you could consider e.g. Lucerne, Bern or Thun:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne
    http://www.myswissalps.com/be rn

In each “What to do” tab you’ll find activities (general) as well as hikes ( in the lower part of the page).

    Best,
    Steph
