Rhaetian Railway today (29 Oct 2022) broke the record for the longest passenger train ever – 100 vehicles ran between Preda and Alvaneu on the Albula railway:

That’s a pretty amazing train. It looks like one very, very, long snake slithering about the countryside. How, and from where, did they find so many carriages? And where did they find the room to assemble it, let alone the boarding process? That’s some feat. Thanks for posting.

The train consisted of 25 compositions with 4 wagons each. It was composed in the Albula tunnel, in the night and morning before it took off. After the ride it had to be decomposed, which I think happened in Alvaneu. This major operation obviously had a huge impact on Saturday’s regular timetable. Longest passenger train in the world: world record of the Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland
It’s done: the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) holds the world record for the longest passenger train in the world with 1906 meters and 100 cars. The trip took place on the UNESCO World Heritage route from the Albula Tunnel in Preda to the world-famous landwasser viaduct shortly after Filisur. The world record was set as part of the 175th anniversary celebrations of the Swiss railways.
