A bit confused by all the options. Do we need a Half Fare Card and a Regional Pass to travel around the area from Lucerne and up to Murren and Grindlewald? A lot of trams and cable cars would be used, as well as a boat trip or two on the lakes. Its not clear to me.
We also need to travel from Zurich to Lucerne, then back from Lucerne to Basel. Would single fare tickets for those trips be best? Or would a Swiss Travel Pass be better?

A Swiss rail pass of some sort will help you save money on your travels here almost certainly.
