Are the train views on regular trains from Tirano to St Moritz the same as or similar to those seen on board the Bernina Express?

exactly the same views, except if you bend your neck you might see a few extra bits of mountainside through the ‘toplight’ windows of the Bernina Express carriages

    Hi Asimm76,

you can check the prices in the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. You will need a seat reservation on Bernina Express (http://www.myswissalps.com/be rninaexpress/tickets). If you have a rail pass like the Swiss Travel Pass you do not need to buy ticket, just a seat reservation. You do not need the seat reservation on local trains just on the Bernina Express.

‘Local trains’ are cheaper as you don’t pay the extra reservation fee.

In any case on slow steeply graded single-track mountain lines like the Bernina, local trains are not much slower than ‘express’ trains

The benefits of the ‘panoramic’ coaches are open to debate. It hardly matters if you don’t go in a ‘panoramic’ coach as most Swiss trains have large windows, even if not officially panoramic. The key element of a ‘panoramic’ coach is ‘toplight’ windows above your head but in practice very few of the major views from panoramic trains are directly above your head, so the view through the normal side part of windows is normally fine.
