Hello, we are a family of 5; 3 adults, 16 year old and an 8 year old. We want to take a train from Geneva airport to Interlaken, where we will be staying and return one week later. We haven’t decided what we would like to see yet, but we would like to make some trips by train. Please could you let me know the cheapest way of doing this? also, the family deals refer to up to 15, and in other information refers to under 16. Would my 16 year old qualify for the free tickets?

The cheapest way to travel around Switzerland is usually a Swiss rail pass, like the Swiss Travel Pass: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass. The Swiss Family Card (free and only available if you buy a Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card) covers children 6 to 15 (under 16 and up to 15 is two different ways of saying the same thing).
