We are 4 elderly travellers who are visiting Zermatt in May 2023

After travelling by train and/or funicular then walk, which is an easier walk Rottenboden to Riffelsee or Blauherd to Stellisee?

Any recommendations?

Hi Dan,

Rotenboden to Riffelsee is a 3,1 km long route, it takes 1 hour. Ascent 42 m, descent 276 m. The Stelli Lake is a 20-minute walk from the Blauherd summit station.

I’ve seen both and my private opinion is that Matterhorn is maybe a bit nicer from Riffelsee. But both are beautiful 🙂

Yes, that is true. Sorry I missed the May from your post.

It depends on the weather. Above 1800m, it can still snow in May (even in June). It is very difficult to predict.
