I’m using the Advanced timetable and trying to determine if I am using it correctly. For the “from” I put it Interlaken Ost. and in the “To” I put in Schilthorn. I was trying to get the cost for a one-way, one person trip to the top of the Schilthorn. I used an 8 AM departure time. It came back with the cost being 37.50 CHF. Looking at the route it said from Interlaken OST platform take the train to Lauterbrunnen, then walk to the bus from the Lauterbrunnen Bahnhof. Take the bus in the direction of Stechelberg. At Stechelberg, take the cable car direction Grimmelwald. At Grimmelwald, change to cable car direction Murren. At Mürren change to cable car in direction Birg. At Birg, change cable car to the top of the Schilthorn.

I used the Advanced timetable similarly for Lucerne to Titlis. It gave me a price for that trip as 44.20 CHF per person one way.

Do these prices sound correct? I assume the advance timetable is showing me total cost for trains and cable cars to the destination with no discounts for any Swiss pass types. Is that correct? My other assumption is that with a Swiss half fare card that would only get you discounts off the train costs within this price, but not the cable cars included in the overall price shown within the Advanced timetable shown price. Is that correct?

    Hi Amundsen007,

if you are using the advanced timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable then you are actually using the SBB timetable. On that page, you’ll also find the “How to find travelling times (advanced timetable)” and “How to find ticket prices (advanced timetable)” descriptions if you scroll down a little bit.

In brief, the price you can see is the total & discounted price for the trip. Discounted, because the SBB timetable shows half-fare prices. If you do not the Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard) then you need to double that price. So if you have no Swiss Half Fare Card then you’ll pay75 CHF one way per person.

With the Swiss Half Fare Card you get a discount not just on the trains but also on most of the cable cars, see the list here and also make sure to download the validity map: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/validity.

If you are not sure which Swiss rail pass you need, look at http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass. There you’ll find a downloadable spreadsheet. That will help you to calculate your costs and decide about the rail passes.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have further question,

    Ildiko
