Hi Friends,

We are a family of 6 (myself and wife, 2 boys ages 6 and 12, my parents ages 68 & 66). We are planning to do mountain excursions for 2 days during our 7 days trip in Switzerland ( 3 nights Zermatt and 4nights Grindelwald) in End June.

1) So for the 1st Mountain Excursion, we intend to do the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and the Gornegrat with the Peak to Peak Ticket for a full day. Do you think it is a good idea to do both or perhaps just the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Matterhorn Glacier Paradise website says that there will be snow. And my kids are eager to see snow for their first time. On our next day in Zermatt we intend to go to Sunnega

2) For our 2nd Mountain Excursion when we are in Grindelwald for 4 nights. We are deciding between either Jungfrau or Mt. Schilthorn. Any suggestions to decide between the two. We are not buying the Swiss Travel Pass and will purchase the Swiss Half Fare card. And undecided on the Jungfrau travel pass for 3 or 4 days. Will there be snow on Schilthorn during our visit or will Snow only be there in Jungfrau. Please suggest which excursion would be of a better experience for the family. Also we all have visited the Jungfrau about over 15years ago and have a slight memory of the experience.

Please let me know of any suggestions for the 2 day mountain excursion during our 7 days trip in Zermatt / Grindelwald.

Thanks/Regards, Avish

Hi Avish,

  1. The Peak to Peak isn't operating in June so if you do both mountains you'll need to head back to Zermatt in between. This is still very possible, however if you are going to Sunnegga as well I don't think all 3 are needed. Of the 3, Klein Matterhorn will be the only one with snow (Gornergrat might have a little? Probably not).

  2. Schilthorn will not have any snow no, or at least very little if it does. Jungfraujoch is considerably higher. Both mountains are nice for families - perhaps Jungfraujoch has a bit more to see/do at the top.
