Hi DRRKREMER, and welcome to MySwissAlps!
I suggest you go to Gimmelwald via Luzern/Lucerne, to experience part of the Golden Pass route between Luzern and Interlaken Ost.
I’m sure you would enjoy breaking your journey at Luzern. You could leave your luggage in the lockers at Luzern station, and spend a couple of hours exploring the old town and seeing the Chapel Bridge. It is all very close to the station. If you have time for a meal in Luzern, you could consider the Rathaus Brauerei on the riverfront, not far from the station.

Trains leave Luzern for Interlaken Ost every hour at 5 minutes past the hour. It will take you about 3 hours to get from Luzern to Gimmelwald.
You can plan this trip using the Swiss Timetable:

Thank you for your prompt reply and we will follow your advice and break up the trip in Lucern on our way to Gimmelwald. We will be staying in Gimmelwald for 5 days then on day 6 travel back to Luzern for a day and then day 7 to Zurich for our departure. Our primary purpose for staying in Gimmelwald is the serenity and the hiking. We are thinking of hiking in the morning and then sightseeing the Berner Oberland in the afternnon and evenings. With being based in Gimmelwald how would you suggest sightseeing Wednesday through Sunday? We value your input.

Gimmelwald is very, very small so a little travel is needed to move around to nearby towns and hikes.
Be sure to read through our page on the Jungfrau region as well as “what to do” on our pages for Mürren, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, for things to do during your stay. There are lots of hiking options available to you listed on those links as well.
