Hi – We are going up to Schilthorn and staying one night at a hotel in Murren at the middle of March. The hotel appears to be about 8 minutes or so from the cable cars/train. I’m traveling to Switzerland for work and don’t anticipate needing boots etc for other activities. Can I get by with sneakers in our one day in the mountains?

Thank you – I have found this site very helpful!

    Hello Cjy1cjy1

Welcome to MySwissAlps and thank you for your nice words about the site.

There will definitely still be snow on the Schilthorn, as there is throughout the year. In Muerren you’ll most probably find snow as well, although this depends a little on how spring goes.

Generally speaking I would say you are safe with good sneakers for both your activities. Just be aware that you’ll be moving on snow and go carefully. You will also find possibilities to rent equipment in Muerren, should the winter return unexpectedly, which it sometimes can.

Hope this prevents you from carrying too much luggage.

    Enjoy your stay.

    Best,
    Steph
