Hi Mikehaf,
What is it you would like to do? While In Zermatt you will have many opportunities to go up into the mountains, such as Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn as well as many hiking options.
Lugano will go you a more Italian, tropical’ish, lakeside experience ;). Is there any other ideas you had in mind to see and do in Switzerland?
It may be best for you to read through our page on “what to do” in Switzerland. Something may appeal to you and you can read about where ti is and how to get there. Once you have some ideas let us know and we can help refine your itinerary.

We are trying to figure out what to do after Zermatt and before Milan.
We really want to see The last Supper so sort of set our direction to go that way. We will be journeying by train so were ready to use the different Mountain Express trains to accomplish this.
We like food, coffee, art, as well as hiking or scenic side trips. We are not set in stone for Lugano so any alternate itinerary ideas would be appreciated.

Hi mikehaf,
From Zermatt you may consider taking Glacier Express to Chur or St Moritz. Then following day to Lugano via Bernina Express.
Depends if panorama trains are high on your agenda and whether you are set on 3 night in Lugano.

I think that’s the plan. 1 night in St Moritz and 1 night in Lugano. Then a little more time in Italy.
Thank you for the valuable advise!!!
