Yes, quite the climb up but the views were great (see my pics from there) and in good weather the restaurant is a great idea (check that they are open before going).

    Hi Lucas

Lunch at the castle up the hill sounds very nice. How steep is the climb? My sister who is joining me may not be able to make it if it is too high a climb

Thank you slowpoke. We will see how we go when we are there. Hopefully I will be able to provide a trip report on my return as a “thank you” to the awesome people who run this forum and the travellers who respond on this forum.

    Hi Mraoz

We found some nice places to eat along the river bank too. My husband made his way up to the castle afterwards on his own as I knew I wouldn’t be able to manage it. I found a nice bench to sit on and people watch and bird watch! Including a couple of amorous grebes and a large clutch of baby ducks with their mum!

Thank you Maggie for that alternate suggestion. Sounds good.

Hello, would you recommend this as a daytrip from Wengen? We have one free day to either do this or Luzern/Mt Rigi?

We prepaid for that night in Wengen and head to Zermatt the next morning but I will check travel times to see if we should forfeit that night in Wengen and stay in Zurich/Luzern instead. Thank you 😉

    Hui Conniehoang –

Stein is 4 hrs and 20 minutes +/_ from Wengen.

It is hard to offer opinions on the merits of one place or the other without knowing more about your itinerary. If I were doing it, I’d certainly not take time from Wengen unless I had 3 or more days there, or more, to allow for weather. Since you do not say how many days you’ll be in Wengen, I ( at least)) cannot make a judgement.

The Jungfrau region has a lot more to offer than the small but attractive town of Stein am Rhein. But, that doesn’t matter if you like quaint small towns more than the lees common high Alpine experience.
