Hi Raypercy and welcome to MySwissAlps!

I’m not very clear on your question. Do you want a recommendation for the fastest way to Rome? The most scenic? How much time do you have to travel that day?

The Swiss railways timetable will give you the the most direct routing be default: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

The quickest option is about 6.5 hours. Longer, more scenic options could be done if you have another 2 + hours or so.

The resources you need are sure to be on this wonderful site.

Once you’ve got a much clearer picture of your plans, no doubt the good people on here should be able to help on specific queries.

Planning is half the fun and PPPPP always applies; prior planning prevents poor performance.

    Enjoy your travels!

We want to travel the Scenic route and we’re hoping for “Orient Express” first class style

We were hoping to fly from UK to Lucerne, but we may have to fly to Zurich first, wouldn’t mind spending a day or two in Zurich & then Train to Lucerne. .. Spend a couple of days in Lucerne ,, then Train to Rome via Scenic route

We aren’t doing this till June 2019; so it is difficult to look at Timetable

    Ah ha, I see.

There are two three trains in Switzerland that are similar to the Orient Express – though not as luxurious as far as I’m aware.

From Lucerne, you can travel to Lugano on the Gotthard Panorama Express train and then regional trains on to Rome: https://www.myswissalp s.com/gotthardpanorama express

You could also travel to Chur or St. Moritz and take the Bernina Express to Tirano, Italy and from there Italian trains on to Rome: https://www.myswissalp s.com/berninaexpress

Finally, from Chur you can take the Glacier Express (by far the longest scenic train ride) to Zermatt. Not quite the right direction for you but you can back track to Brig a little if you want to visit Zermatt ad then from there down to Domodossola and on to Rome on Italian trains. https://www.myswissalp s.com/glacierexpress

The current schedules can give you an idea for next year as they don’t change too much typically – especially

    for those scenic trains.
