Is Bahnhofstrasse Zurich worth it Sunday morning?

Hello, I have a question about the Bahnhofstrasse on Sundays (in summer). I understand the stores are closed. I am more of a window shopper, and would not be buying anything from these high end stores anyway. However, I definitely want to experience this shopping street. My question is, is it still worth it to visit the Bahnhofstrasse on a Sunday morning – are the window displays worth seeing. I am hoping that I would still get an appreciation of the street, the shops on it, and the overall vibe of the area…. or would the closed stores and lack of shoppers make it seem deserted?

Our flight arrives at 8am on Sunday (in July) and our plan was to walk up and down the Bahnhofstrasse for an hour or so, and then meet up with a guided tour to do a 2 hour walking tour of Old Town at 11am, back at the train station.

If your recommendation is not to bother with Bahnhofstrasse, then my other plan would be to take a Limmat River Cruise, from Zürich Landesmuseum, and/or then take a short lake cruise from Zürich Bürkliplatz. I’d appreciate your input on what would be a better plan. I am also going to purchase the STP, and wondered if the river and/or boat cruises would be covered by the STP.

    Many thanks!

    Hello Sandy

I love window shopping. In fact it’s the only form of shopping I enjoy (not counting eBay). 😉

If you perchance visit Lugano don’t miss Via Nassa for the ultimate window-shopping experience.

    Hi Sandy-

Will you be jetlagged when you arrive?

If so, you would likely catch a nap on the boat rides. 😉

The Bahnhofstrasse will not be empty at almost any time of day, any day of the week. Whether the window shopping is worthwhile is a highly personal issue. I don’t do it. Many do. 😉 It’s a nice walk.

I’d consider going up to the Lindenhof, and walking along the Limmat , as long as you are in the area…. if you are using walking as a “pre-night time getting tired process” for jet lag suppression. Although the tour may cover those.

They are, but I think the lake boats added a 5 or 10 CHF supplement a couple of years ago:

    Hi Slowpoke,

That’s correct, but the supplement has already been lifted luckily.
