Swiss Half Fare Card or Saver Day Pass

Planning to take the Glacier Express, Zermatt-St. Moritz in mid July. We also are going to obtain Half-Fare Cards to use for other trips. It seems that the cheapest way to go would be to buy Saver Day Passes to use on the day we take the Glacier Express. In that case, the Glacier Express would be “free” in that I don’t need to buy tickets (although we will have to pay for seat reservations). Is this correct?

    Thanks

    Hi Stevemcdonal,

correct, Saver Day Pass is valid on Glacier Express: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/validity, this means that you do not need any ticket if you have a valid Saver Day Pass but you still need to reserve your seats in advance. You can do that at http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/tickets.

The Saver Day Pass is cheaper with a Swiss Half Fare Card. Buy your Saver Day Pass earlier to get the best price. You can purchase it at http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price.

Swiss Half Fare Card can be bought at http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/price.

Thanks so much Ildiko! I suppose I can buy the Half-Fare card even now (for July 11-Aug 11) and have it emailed to me. As far as the Saver Day Pass goes, the HappyRail site says that that the Pass is available 60 days in advance of travel, unless I “pre-book”, which I guess I can do now and they will send me the Pass at whatever the “best price” is on the first day it is available (May 17) for my travel (July 16). Any thoughts on which way I should go (ie, do I worry that the Saver Day Pass for July 16 will be sold out shortly after May 17??).

    Thanks

Yes, you can buy your Swiss Half Fare Card now and get the pass via email.

The Saver Day Pass can be purchased between 60 and 1 day(s) before your travel date. Some retailers offer pre-booking more than 60 days in advance, you can find them on the link above, but you can wait for May 17 if you do not want to do the pre-booking, it is up to you. Just do not wait for too long (like until June).

For purchasing the passes please see the links above.
