    Hi,

We are planning a family get together in Morschach Swill holiday park where we got 3 bedroom apartment through our time share from May 11 to 18, 2019. We will be either 5 adults or 5 adults and 2 kids. Planning to go nearby places either by train or by renting a car. Need your advice.

Thinking of Zurich, Rhine Falls, Lucern, one of the mountains: Pilatus, Titlis or Rigi. , Interlaken,

Bern etc. It is our first visit so not familiar; need your input.

After that planning to go to Paris for couple of days.

    Thanks in advance.

You can go everywhere by train – EXCEPT – that Morschach does not have a railway – it closed in 1969. You would have to take the bus from Morschach to Brunnen first:

However Brunnen is on the main Gotthard line and you can get to all the main places by starting off on the hourly express train (departs xx.53) towards Arth Goldau

Thanks, so you recommend train over a car; right?

I was looking at videos, they mentioned places like Aara Gorge, Stanserhorn etc. I thought those places are better by car.

    Hi Pats-

We used the Holiday Park in in Morschach a few times several years ago.

Good deal. Nice to have the restaurant when you do not feel like cooking.

The bus is a good connection to the main line rail at Brunnen.

You’ll find that the southern part of Lake Lucerne is beautiful and worth some time.

You may indeed find a car to be more convenient from that location.

Depending on exactly what you hope to do, the Jungfrau region may (or may not) have much too much snow for you…depends on altitude.

PS – it is a good time of year to visit the Rhine Falls. Lots of water flow from the Winter snow melt. My own opinion, definitely biased, is –

    “Why bother?”

Just my opinion. I think that there are more spectacular and distinctively Swiss things to see in the Jungfrau Region or near Luzern.

    What are your personal interests?

    Tentative plan:

Flying from Paris on May 11th by 5.45 pm; either to rent a car and go to Morschach or find other way.

Will be in Swiss Holiday Park in Morschach for 7 nights.

    Sites considering are:

Zurich (1/2 day city tour); may do on the last day May 18th before leaving to Paris or combine with Rhine Falls.

    Lucern (1/2 day city tour).

One of the mountains: either Rigi, Tiltis or Pilatus.

Bern combined with Interlaken or on its own. If we do Bern on its own then may try to cover some sites on the way.

Interlaken combined with Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen valley or Bern, still to decide.

Places around or on the way to other major sites; like Zug, Weggis, Stanserhorn, Aare Gorge etc.

Going back to Paris on 18th after check out; haven’t booked a flight yet. May take a train to go back. Plan on 18th of May is still to be finalized.

Will be in Paris for couple of days; need to plan that visit too, will be back to USA on 21st of May, 2019.

    Hi Pats-

In general, it seems to me that you are planning to spread your self quite thin. Perhaps trying to touch too many bases in the time available. Luzern and the lake deserve more than a half day, in my opinion. Of course, you’ll be able to access the lake at Brunnen. But, the Altstadt ( old city) in Luzern, the Lion, the Bourbaki Panorama and the Jesuit Church could make a nice half day.

The Rathaus Brauerei restaurant by the river is one of many good choices, with a good range of menu choices.

Since you are from the USA, you may have seen the Niagara Falls. If so, it is my opinion that you’ll be underwhelmed by the Rhine Falls. Powerful, but not very high. Others disagree. 😉

Interlaken per se is a lot less interesting, less scenic, and less Alpine than one of the villages nearer to the Jungfrau.

By the way, Fronalpstock might be a mountain to consider, since you’ll be in Morschach.

I think that you should stick to one area – leave the rest for another holiday.

There is so much to do in the Lake Luzern area it will take up your time. For example, just a boat trip on the lake will take most of 1 day (otherwise it is not enjoyable).

Going too far too often could be OK for the adults but not necessarily the younger members of the party

<<“For example, just a boat trip on the lake will take most of 1 day (otherwise it is not enjoyable).”>>

    Indeed.

If I were doing it, I’d go to Flüelen by train from Brunnen. If I went by car, I’d park in the big lot by the Post. I’d catch the boat at Flüelen and ride it all the way to Luzern. Depending on season,. once per hour. Trip is about 4 hours.

I’d try hard to time it to get one of the steam engine paddle wheel boats, and I’d eat in the First Class cabin on the way.

The timetable and the boat schedule show which are steamers.

    Good site. Map somewhere.

    Watch for seasonal schedules.

This thread, though aimed at hiking, gives a good impression of the southern part of the lake:
