We are trying to find the best Swiss Rail option for a family vacation. We are three adults.

    This is our itinerary:

    • Arriving Zurich June 23 at 10:00 am.
    • Zurich to Evolene on 6/23.
    • Evolene to Saas-Fee on 6/27.
    • One of our party going back to Zurich to fly out on 6/30.
    • We (party of 2) travel on to Wengen 6/30.
    • Wengen to Bolzano Italy 7/4.
    • Bolzano to Brunico Italy. 7/7.
    • Finally Brunico to Zurich on 7/10.

Question: What is the best Swiss Rail option for us?

    Thank you – Kip

Hi Kip and welcome to MySwissAlps!

To know which pass is the best for your specific itinerary you need to plan out all trips you will make (train, bus, boat, cable car) and compare the prices for regular tickets to the rail pass price (and which routes/mountains are free or discounted). Once you have that information you can read our page here on how to choose the best rail pass. There is a spreadsheet there to help with the math. 🙂

    Hi Kip,

If I am counting right you have 12 days so a 15-day Swiss Travel Pass may make sense. And an 8-day pass for the one person who departs earlier. But if you’re looking for the cheapest option it’s best to make the full calculation with all your day trips included. Lucas’s link will help you do so.

    Hi Arno,

Does the 15-day Swiss Travel pass work for buses in Italy too.? If so where? See our itinerary above.

    Thanks Kip

    Hi Kip,

The pass is for Switzerland with only a few exceptions across the border. If you go to the Swiss Travel Pass link in my previous post, you can download the map from the “Where it’s valid” tab.

    Hi Arno,

What is the best way to buy 15-day Swiss Travel passes? I need to buy two, plus a 8-day pass. Can we get them fulfilled online?

    Thanks Kip
