Yes, Swiss Travel Pass (STP) is valid to Chamonix. This is a bit of an exception to the rule in that some of the journey is in French territory, but the STP is valid because the train Martigny – Chamonix (branded Mont Blanc Express) is a joint venture between the Swiss TMR group and the French national railway SNCF.

Route is Zermatt– Visp (MGB railway narrow gauge)

Visp – Martigny (SBB CFF main line Inter Regio (IR) train – 2 per hour)

Martigny – Chamonix (Mont Blanc Express narrow gauge)

Thank you very much! I understand this is a very scenic route?

Would you suggest we take this trip versus a drive by car?

Should add we will be doing this in late December, skiing in both Zermatt and Chamonix.

    Thanks again

Yes, mainly because Zermatt – Täsch is not allowed by car for non-locals. The rest of the route is possible by car but it is quite a challenging road journey as it involves lots of mountain roads
