I have the link to the Timetable for trains in Switzerland but the calendar for pricing only goes out 60 days. I’m trying to give my friends an idea on what to expect the cost will be if they pay at the airport on the day of arrival without a Swiss Travel Pass or Eurail pass from Zurich to Lucerne. Does anyone know the average cost at the end of April to take the train ( 2nd class )? We would be landing in Zurich at approximately 9 a.m. I see today’s rates ( wow, so many trains at a wide range of prices! ). Do trains have months that are higher rates than others? Thanks!

    Hi Nstpie,

The ticket prices quoted on the SBB timetable are half-price by default and these are usually fixed for the whole year. If you have a Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard), these are the prices that you would expect to pay for regular tickets.

I would recommend the following link to find out how to use the timetable to plan your trip and find prices: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

If you buy your tickets in advance, you may get some discounts (these are the other rates you see on the timetable). In most cases these are called Supersaver tickets. They are available 60 days ahead of time and for selected routes and times. Unlike regular tickets and passes, Supersaver tickets can sell out and are not flexible: if you miss the train you cannot use the ticket for another train. Supersaver tickets can’t be changed, and are basically not refundable. Supersaver tickets can only be purchased online.

You can find more information about point-to-point tickets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Regards.

    Anna
