Upgrade our 8 day Swiss Travel Pass to 15 days?

We are doing a disjointed trip around Switzerland on our own and as part of a Cosmos train tour. We will have a Swiss Travel Pass for the Cosmos tour (I am thinking an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass) supplied by the tour company; would we be able to add on to that pass to make it a 15 day pass by paying the difference through one of the companies that sells the passes? Or will we have to choose other options for the times that we will be in Switzerland but not on the tour?

    Thanks,

    Nickolyn

I very much doubt you will be able to alter a pass supplied by a tour operator, as they will have obtained passes in bulk as part of a major contract. If you are trying to add on at both ends of your organised tour you will have to pay quite a lot for another ‘all-lines’ pass. It will be less costly if you are just adding to one end or the other.

An annual Swiss Half Fare Card might be an option, but remember this has a purchase cost before you can start getting reduced rate tickets. If you happened to return to Switzerland within a year the card would still be valid.

Can Cosmos upgrade you to a 15-day Pass? They presumably run longer tours as well. Otherwise you will just have to buy something additional.

The best add-on Pass depends on what your “off-tour” itinerary looks like.

You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it’s valid” tab for all available passes. Be sure to check that for each pass you are considering.
