Swiss Travel Pass Flex or consecutive?

Which train pass would be best for me? I will be arriving in Basel and taking a train to Bern in the late afternoon on a Thursday. On Friday I will be spending the day mostly walking around Bern and checking things out. Saturday and Sunday I would like to do some longer train rides and on Monday early morning heading to Milan by train. Would I be best to buy a flex pass for four days or a consecutive pass and just pay separately to get from airport to Bern. Although I will be there 5 days…because I come in at end of day on Thursday and leave before 7 am to Italy on the Monday I’m unsure what is best. I am guessing the consecutive starts the day you use it not by the 24 hours.

Also is it worth it to get first class?

thanks for all the help I’ve been getting here.

    Hi Shannoncrate,

Price-wise, a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex cost substantially more than 3- or 4-day Swiss Travel Pass (CHF232 and CHF281 respectively).

Based on your plans, I would get a 3-day Swiss Travel Pass to use on Days 3 to 5. With the STP, you can travel for free on the public transport anywhere so you can easily plan day trips from Bern. On Day 5, the STP is valid up to the border so you only need to pay for the Italian portion of your trip i.e. Chiasso or Domodossola to Milan. For tickets to Italy, you can find information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy

For Day 2, you probably won’t be needing a pass. For Day 1, you might be able to get a Supersaver ticket if you book early. Supersaver tickets are discounted regular point-to-point tickets: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland

Swiss Travel Pass purchase options: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price

Would this be a good option for you?

    regards,

    Anna
