Hi Shannoncrate,
Price-wise, a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex cost substantially more than 3- or 4-day Swiss Travel Pass (CHF232 and CHF281 respectively).
Based on your plans, I would get a 3-day Swiss Travel Pass to use on Days 3 to 5. With the STP, you can travel for free on the public transport anywhere so you can easily plan day trips from Bern. On Day 5, the STP is valid up to the border so you only need to pay for the Italian portion of your trip i.e. Chiasso or Domodossola to Milan. For tickets to Italy, you can find information here: www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy
For Day 2, you probably won't be needing a pass. For Day 1, you might be able to get a Supersaver ticket if you book early. Supersaver tickets are discounted regular point-to-point tickets: www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland
Swiss Travel Pass purchase options: www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price
Would this be a good option for you?
regards,
Anna
