We are visiting Switzerland in September. We will have a rental car and one stop is in Lucerne for 3 nights. Can we purchase a travel pass at the hotel? We would like to take a boat ride on Lake Lucerne, and take the cable car to Schilthorn. Is it worth purchasing a Swiss Pass?
Hello Lillestolen and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
Have you read www.myswissalps.com/ca rversustrain?
Based on your personal itinerary you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it's valid" page for all available passes. Be sure to check those pages for each pass you are considering. Study the map AND read all the text on those pages to fully understand what is covered by the respective pass.
If you're mainly staying in the area around Lucerne and are looking for a more local pass, check out the Tell Pass. You will find interesting information (incl. detailed validity) on each according tab of this link: - www.myswissalps.com/te llpass
Also a good option for people who travel by car (should you stick to this plan), is the Swiss Half Fare Card, find details here: - www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard
