    Hi MsYenY,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! I understand your dilemma. I quite a lot of cases, the 8-day Swiss Travel Pass is sufficient for a 10 day trip. If you don’t travel much on your day of arrival and departure, for example, a local pass/ticket might be just fine. Or you can look into the Saver Day Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass. Please see here for how to compare your options: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

    Hi Mrcet007,

You can’t add the Swiss Travel Pass to any app, nor do you need to. The pass is ready to use. If you need discounted tickets for cableways, simply show your pass on the spot, or buy the tickets online and show them along with your pass when you arrive at the cableway. Please also see “How to start using your electronic pass” on http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse.

    Hi again Mrcet007,

As for the other promotion: it looks like it’s geared to Swiss residents as it’s only offered on the domestic website and not in the tourist web shop of the SBB. I think everyone can buy it, I don’t see restrictions at first glance (although it was only for residents when SBB announced this a while ago). Do note that it is not refundable, unlike the promotion we’re discussing here. And you don’t get a free Swiss Family Card, so for children you need to buy something extra. Also, the Trial Half Fare Travelcard is only a voucher: you need to get to a staffed train station to get the actual card, and pay for it there separately. Only then you can travel with the pass and card combined. Personally I’d stick to the original promo from the tourist web shop I think.

    Hi Moe byj,

Yes, the 4-day pass of the domestic promotion is only valid in combination with the Half-Fare Travelcard (this is different from the Swiss Half Fare Card, please see https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/details). You will need to present both the pass and the Half-Fare Travelcard during ticket inspection. There’s no such restriction for the promotion we’re discussing here in this thread.

    Anna

    Hi Arno

This is really confusing to me. I choose no discount option and amount is CHF 139. It is same amount with choosing 4 days plus half fare.

Not sure , why SBB website is confusing like that , they should have only one option if this discount card goes with half fare card.

I think I will have to spend another 33 CHF for half fare trial card, do you know the link as I can not find in SBB website.

Please see from attachment for the option I mention about.

    Thanks

    Hi Moe byj,

I don’t know why it works like that. We’re not really familiar with this particular promotion and it’s not the one we’re discussing here in the thread (Arno’s original post is here: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/swiss-travel-pass-promotion-until-31-oct-2022). The promotion you purchased is basically meant for Swiss residents, although it seems like nothing is stopping anyone else from buying it. What I do know is that you do need the residential Half-Fare Travelcard (trial or regular), or else that pass won’t be valid to travel with. You’re right, you need to buy that separately.

Now I understand it’s on for resident, do you know the link to buy the trial card.

    Thanks

As far as I know you should receive a voucher, and you need to take that to a staffed train station in Switzerland and buy the trial Half-Fare travelcard there. If you can’t figure it out it’s best to ask SBB directly, they should be able to explain.

I just bought the 4 day Swiss Travel Pass. I know you don’t need to reserve seats unless you’re taking one of the panoramic trains. How do you reserve seats?online? SBB app? I have the SBB app but how do you add the Swiss travel pass? I only see Swiss Pass which is only for residents of Switzerland. Can you reserve seats hrs before you take that particular train?

HI guys, brand new member here arriving for a holiday in Switzerland early next month – great timing for this promotion! Quick question… we are 2 adults and 2 kids (13, 11)… for the 6 day Swiss Travel Pass when I sign up the kids SBB says they are free with the Swiss Family Pass but for the 4 day promo offer it says that will cost CHF99 per child – is this correct, or should the Swiss Family Pass cover them alongside the Swiss Travel Pass 4 day promotion? Thanks – this is a great site. – Stuart

    Hi Klabru,

You can reserve seats through any of the options listed in the “Tickets” section of our panoramic train pages (https://www.myswissalps.com/activities/scenictrips/train). Examples:

You don’t have to add your Swiss Travel Pass to a SwissPass account. In most cases you even can’t. Please find this explained at the below pages:

I hope this answers your questions!

Hi Stuart, welcome to MySwissAlps and thanks for your kind words!

The free Swiss Family Card is also available for the discounted 4-day Swiss Travel Pass. I don’t know from which website you’re ordering, but the ones mentioned in my initial post (http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/swiss-travel-pass-promotion-until-31-oct-2022) are best. I don’t encounter any problems when adding a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass plus a free Swiss Family Card through the official SBB tourist webshop: https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/en/product/swissPass. Does that work for you too?

Thanks so much for that, I will definitely use one of the recommended sites to book.

It was the SBB rail site where they list a child at CHF 99 for the 4 day promo pass – very odd. Maybe a glitch in how they set it up? Photo attached 🙂

Thanks again for the help, can’t wait to get there!

    Hi StufromOz,

this is bizarre, indeed. See the attached screenshot. this is if you order through https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/en/product/swissPass. This is the same link as Arno shared.

    Take care,

    Ildiko

That’s probably because it’s the domestic website and a different promotion, primarily for residents. It does not come with free travel for children: the free Swiss Family Card is for tourists only. Simply buy from the link repeated by Ildiko, or any tourist web shop listed here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/promotions. That’s much simpler and includes free travel for children.

    Hello,

I bought the half fare card already and was charge full price on the green train day pass from Domodossola to Interlaken In addition I also bought a train ticket from lucern to Paris Gare de Lyon and was charged full fare. Shouldn’t it be at least half fare from Lucern to Basel and full fare Basel to Paris. Please advise. It appears that it is a waste of money to buy the half fare card

    thank you

    HI Phuong7054,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

You are correct. With a Swiss Half Fare Card you are eligible for discounts on the tickets from Domodossola to Interlaken and also for a portion of your journey from Lucerne to Paris. Did you purchase your tickets online or from the counter? If you purchase the tickets directly from a staff, you need to present the Swiss Half Fare Card before making payment.

For further details on how to use the Swiss Half Fare Card here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/howtouse

    Regards,

    Anna
