For most trains within Switzerland, reservations are not needed and are not common. So you just board the train, choosing a carriage in the appropriate class for your Swiss Travel Pass (first or second class), and find a seat. If any seats have been reserved by someone else, this will be apparent from a small display above the seat - but as I said, this is very uncommon.
However, if you are planning on travelling on the Glacier Express, Bernina Express or Gotthard Panorama Express, reservations are compulsory for these trains.
