Hi merlin! Which pass is best, really depends on what type of rail journeys you’ll be making. You indicate that you’ll be travelling only during some days of your stay. If long (and therefore expensive) journeys are planned on these days, you may consider a Swiss Saver Flexi Pass. This pass allows a fixed number of days (that don’t have to be consecutive) on which you can travel for free. On all days between your first and last day of free travelling, a 50% discount applies. You don’t have to specify in advance which dates you want to use for free travelling. You can simply stamp your pass or write down the date on such a day, right before boarding your first train, bus or boat.
If you’ll be making relatively short trips, a Swiss Half Fare Card may be a cheaper solution. It grants a 50% discount on all trips during your entire stay. In both cases your 15 year old daughter will travel along for free if you order a free STS Family Card along with your Swiss Saver Flexi Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card.
Both passes can be ordered online (please review the links listed above) or at larger Swiss railway stations. Due to current exchange rates, it’s cheaper to order your Swiss Saver Flexi Pass online than to buy it in Switzerland.
