Switzerland opening up for non-Schengen tourists?

I just read a post saying that CH is open to tourist form the Schengen zone. That would seem to imply that the rest of the world is excluded. But I just checked and I can book a flight for tomorrow YYZ to ZRH. This kind of ambiguous info is why I’m not coming to Europe this year. Not worried about getting sick – just getting stuck at a border crossing.

    Hi Jackdebear,

That is interesting, that you can book a flight from Toronto to Zurich. The borders are open only for tourists from Schengen countries and the UK. There are no final agreements with countries outside of the Schengen zone yet. Restrictions might be gradually lifted from July 1.

I hope that you can soon come to visit Switzerland.

Interestingly, as of today, the draft EU list allows travel from Canada, but not from the US.

I think that is a future policy plan. I spoke to the Swiss tourist authority in NY. This is about as close to gospel truth as you can get. At this moment no one from Canada will be allowed in with some exceptions. I don’t know what those are. Maybe dual citizens and such. The voice I spoke with speculated that if I bought a ticket I would not be allowed to board at YYZ, or leave ZRH if got that far. Perhaps AirCanada would refuse to complete the ticket sale. It’s not a experiment I want to go through. My plan for this year included several border crossings and is way to open to disruption. Too bad cuz, like I said, I don’ fear the virus a all, and Europe will be so uncrowded this year. Great pictures to be taken.
