    Hi!

We’re traveling to Switzerland for the 1st time at the end of March for 3 full days (plus 2 travel days). We have 2 children – 3 and 5 – and we’re there mainly to ski at one of the big resorts there and take in the sites (beautiful mountains, views). We prefer the city life for overnight stays where possible. Since our children are small, and it’s probably going to be cold,we’d wouldn’t be interested in much hiking, etc.

We’re flying into Zurich (around 4pm), and were thinking about skiing at St. Moritz either 1/2 days, and then going on Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Andermatt, then staying at Lucerne. Wondering if anyone has any itinerary suggestions, and whether this is a good time for skiing/traveling to Switzerland?

After Switzerland, we’re staying in Paris for 7 days and haven’t decided whether to fly to Paris or take the train and maybe stopover in another city in France, such as Lyon.

    Hi

your idea is very good. i had been same trip with my children on last November zurich and paris.bast way travel zurich to paris by ICE train on land.its very beautiful journey. Its take 61/2 hours,

In zurich one travel to TITLIES mountain (Grasier Mount) by cable car. not a hiking.

Paris is very good city. you can use the travel bus. each buses has same root. you can take a ticket and use theses buses for two days to site seen.

Update: We’ll be in Switzerland 4 days/3 nights now. What are the most famous ski resorts in Switzerland? I’ve heard of St. Moritz and Zermatt. We don’t want to miss going to one of the big ski resorts there, and are there ski in/ski out resorts there? We’d like to stay some place that’s convenient since we’ll be traveling with kids. Are there usually places we can rent the ski gear at the ski resort/close by?

    Thanks!

Hello SkatingFan and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Sorry for not having answered your request earlier and thanks for the update.

Yes, St. Moritz and Zermatt are for sure among the most famous skiing resorts in Switzerland:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/stmoritz
    http://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt

In the skiing region you will always find the option of renting equipment, no problem whatsoever!

As I am not a skier myself, can you tell me what you mean by ski in/ski out resort?!

    Thanks and best,
    Steph

By Ski in/Ski Out resort, I mean resorts with walking access to the ski slopes at the resort. We’re looking for something walkable or a short train ride to the ski slopes that’s convenient.

Since we’re arriving in late March, we’re looking for a resort with good conditions (maybe higher elevation?) and convenient access.

    Hi SkatingFan,

because of global warming it is really difficult to predict the weather and snow condition even in Switzerland for the end of March. Zermatt would be a good option for you, as it is Switzerland’s highest ski resort and it is usually open until late April (there are open ski slopes even during the summer).

You can search for accommodation at http://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/rentals and http://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/hotels.

Another option is Saas-fee, close to Zermatt:http://www.myswissalps.com/saasfee. It is not that well known as Zermatt, but you can ski and snowboard there during the whole year too, so for sure you’ll find snow in March there. List of recommended accommodation: http://www.myswissalps.com/saasfee/rentals and http://www.myswissalps.com/saasfee/hotels.

Verbier is also good for late-season snow. It closes usually the end of April. Accommodation: https://www.hotelscombined.ch/Place/Verbier.htm
