Planning on getting the TGV from Zurich to Basel.

However on the SBB app it says that reservations are compulsory, but does not have the option to reserve seats. Only purchase tickets.

We have a first class Swiss pass.

Any advice or should we avoid the TGV?

The SBB Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) doesn’t show reservations as compulsory. But if you want a reservations you should be able to make one at bit.ly/2HHB2Ev.

In any event if you are planning to take the TGV to experience a very fast train then don’t bother. Their speed is restricted on the Swiss Rail Network.

    Thanks.

According to the app the 13.34 departure today is compulsory.

    Not fussed on the speed.

The regional express seems to be the fastest at 100mph haha

    Hi Isdoo,

Reservations are only required if you continue into France. You can check other websites selling tickets as well, they may also offer reservations if you want them: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland /price.

The TGV is slightly faster because it doesn’t stop anywhere between Zurich and Basel, but for a high speed experience you’ll have to travel to Paris.

    Thanks.

Having travelled on many different trains in the last week, it was good to use the TGV.

The problem with no reservations available between Zurich and Basel is that anyone going further will have reserved seats and with no indication as to which seats are reserved it means that people might want the seats that you occupy.

We had the reverse of this in Italy where we had to eject another passenger.

Making reservations available for all would solve this.
