First time in Switzerland, currently sitting in Murren and had a few minutes to post..I used this forum quite a bit in plannng and wanted to emphasize something that the moderators say over and over…don’t count on the weather being perfect for that one day you may have planned for a mountain excursion. Plan for possible weather issues and potentially changes plans quickly.

We had just 3 nights in Lucerne , I had hoped to get to at least 2 mountains, Titlis and Stanserhorn. First full day in Lucerne it rained , so we explored the city and actually went out to Weggis by boat, didnt see any point in going up any mountains in bad weather…

2nd day, woke up to clouds and some blue sky, we took the chance and went to Stanserhorn early morning, figured we’d do it because the big draw was the open air Cabrio, which in the partial clouds didn’t disappoint. We had cloud cover up top so decided to head down into Stan’s for a bit and since we have a Swiss travel pass we thought it may clear up and we could go back up. It didn’t, but we did find a great little pasta pace in Stan’s, PastaRazzi…great lunch there…

scrapped the Mt Titlis plan due to weather, but as we headed back to Lucerne the weather was clearing, so we jumped on the boat and headed to Vitznau, made it up,to top to blue skies, but within an hour it was clouding up…

So far in Murren the weathers been good, but it’s looking like it may be changing Sunday afternoon…made it to the Rotstockhutte today in fantastic weather.

the moral of this story….the weather is so unpredictable in the mountains, be prepared to change your plans, in a moments notice, and if you’re in Stan’s looking for lunch, PastaRazzi is worth it 13.50 franc for a big plate of pasta!

I know this could be in trip reports, if you’d like to move it feel free…and great trip so far, beautiful country and have met a lot of great locals.

    Ken

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for that, and good to hear you’re being flexible. That’s often rewarding in the mountains!
