Hi

I'm trying to book tickets on the Zurich See ferry through SBB. I can see the schedule for 25 December, with 2 departures (11.15 and 13.15). The button to purchase is struck through, so it seems it cannot be completed.

I'm keen to book in advance as there doesn't appear to be much else going on 25 December! Any suggestions on how I can successfully do this? I have a Swiss Travel Pass I'd like to use, if possible.

Thanks!

Hello Kirstyhaymon,

Nice to hear you're planning a boat trip on Lake Zurich for Christmas Day.

I assume you are talking about a regular boat on Lake Zurich, not the car ferry from Meilen to Horgen, right?! If so then you don't need a ticket, as you say you have the Swiss Travel Pass. You will simply be able to board the boat and enjoy. See the validity and how to use tabs of below link for details:

Thanks Steph. Yes the passenger ferry to Rapperswil (and return). I’m assuming there won’t be much demand on Christmas Day? Should we get there a little early to ensure we get a seat or am I overplanning!?

cheers

You're very welcome!

Getting there a bit early to be sure you have a seat is never a bad idea, however, I wouldn't worry too much.

Rapperswil, btw, is a wonderful little place, I must say I like your plan for Christmas Day! ENJOY!

It is not normal to have to buy tickets in advance for Swiss lake boats, just turn up at the landing stage. Getting there early will get you at the front of the queue, although it may be cold of course standing around - not like summer!

The Swiss railway network works as normal on Christmas Day so you could do any railway day trip of your choice

<<"or am I overplanning!?">>

Yes. the Swiss will be at home or on the ski slopes (if there is any good snow that early in the season).

Hi Slowpoke,

at Kleine Scheidegg there are already several slopes open on the weekends and from 14. Dec (this Saturday) they will open also on weekdays.

Also a few other, bigger ski resorts (like Verbier, St. Moritz, Zermatt) are already open at least on weekends. Have a look at www.skiresort.info/snow-reports/switzerland/filter/open-ski-resorts/ for updated information regarding the ski slopes.

2 weeks ago we were sledding at Les Paccots (a very small place), and it's altitude is only around 1000-1100 m.
