we are planning to travel to Switzerland from 1st may to 8th may. We are two adults and two kids aged 6 and 9. we will buy 2 swiss travel passes and kids travel free along with family pass. Do we need to buy tickets for kids for mountain excursions like Pilatus, Titlis and Jungfrau? What discount will we get for kids for these excursions?

    Hello Rohini Jain,

Welcome to MySwissAlps. Nice to hear you’re coming to Switzerland.

The answer to your question is NO, holding a Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Family Card you won’t have to buy any tickets for the kids for any of the destinations.
In some cases the adults have to buy a reduced ticket, but then the children travel for free.

Find out about the Swiss Travel Pass Validity here:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity (e.g. 25% off Jungfraujoch tickets)

    Hope this helps your planning.

    Best,
    Steph

Thank you so much Steph for your prompt reply.

I have few more queries. If we buy ticket for mountain excursions, will it be specific for a particular day? As if the weather doesnt permit on a specific day , we may do it on some other day depending upon the weather condition.

We will go to Austria on 7th from switzerland and will go back to India from Vienna. Which travel card will be good for travelling withinin Austria?

    Hi Rohini Jain,

    You’re welcome!

Yes, you buy tickets for mountain excursions for a fixed date in most cases (unless they don’t ask for a date), so you need to keep an eye on the weather forecast and consider buying mountain excursions on shorter notice. You normally can NOT use the ticket on any other date.

Look at the Eurail Global Pass as an option for Austria: http://www.myswissalps.com/eu railglobalpass

This would also cover parts of your journey in Switzerland but is NOT combinable with the Swiss Family Card. Some thinking for you to do there. 🙂

    Best,
    Steph
