    Hello!

My boyfriend and I will be in Switzerland in early December, as he will be working there for two weeks. I am still working on my own trip while he works, but we’ll have one weekend we would like to spend in a special place with snow, a charming village, good restaurants, a charming hotel (maybe with a hot tub?) and amazing views. We are not ski practitioners, so it doesn’t need to be close to a particular station, nor we are looking to be in a trendsetter people area – but the closest as possible to Vevey, to where he’ll return to continue working. After that, I’ll head to Genebra and start a week around Switzerland riding the train. If you have tips for that too it would be amazing. We can splurge a bit this weekend, but we are not looking towards posh/chain hotels. Thank you in advance!

Hi Cazissima, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

No one can predict if there will be snow in early December.

You could go to Gruyères, a most charming historic village (medieval castle, Gruyere cheese). Go to Montreux, from where there is a train to Montbovon and onward to Gruyères. Check this site for train timetables (“HOW TO TRAVEL”), and a search engine for hotels. If the hot tub is important for you, this site recommends Chardonne ( http://www.myswissalps.com/ho tels/mountaintops ), very close to Vevey, not really a mountaintop, I don’t know it.

A bit further away, but still in the region, is Les Diablerets. That would be if mountain scenery has your preference. From Vevey, the train trip would be Vevey – Aigle – Les Diablerets.

You could also stay in Vevey and spend one day visiting Chillon Castle near Montreux, and go to Les Rochers de Naye (2000 m elevation, your best chance to see snow). Direct mountain train from Montreux. No hotel there AFAIK.

    Hi Cazissima,

Tricky time of year for snow – you’ll want to find a village as high up as you can. Perhaps Zermatt (1600 meters) could work best: http://www.myswissalps.com/ze rmatt/hotels -but that might be a little too far.

    There 2 pages could be useful for a search: http://www.myswissalps.com/ho tels/mountaintops & http://www.myswissalps.com/ho tels/luxurious

You can use the timetable to find connection options: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable
