Hello Kokwengchia, and welcome to MySwissAlps!
Well, that’s an easy one. In Switzerland, toll is collected in the form of a sticker that must be put on the windshield of the car. It is valid until January 31 of the following year, and costs CHF 40. This once-year payment is valid for all toll roads. In other words there are no toll booths! If you rent your motorhomes in Switzerland, it is most likely that the sticker (called vignette) is already there!
The vignette is required on all motorways, including alpine tunnels such as the Gotthard and the San Bernardino. Indeed, electronic maps will identify such roads as toll roads. Details at the above link. Only a few, small, private roads, and the international Grand-Saint-Bernard tunnel have special tolls not covered by the vignette.
No worry to have, isn’t that nice ?
No worry? Well, I urge you to check this out. On this site, really, we recommend to use public transport. Much less hassle (find the rental place, drive when tired, park in city centers, read maps, get familiar with trafic rules, fill the tank before returning the rented car, children getting nervous, etc. etc.) Do you know that there is a train (or bus) every hour in every direction?

Hi,
Twelve people is a good sized group, and I can understand why you have rented two motorhomes in Zürich for your two week visit to Switzerland. I assume that you have done a cost analysis, comparing the cost of travel by motor home (rental and fuel) with that of train passes for twelve people. You undoubtedly have also factored in the cost of your overnight accommodations in motorhomes compared to hotels or bed and breakfasts. As Snowman has already pointed out, just make sure you have a valid 2019 vignette affixed to the windshield of each vehicle. <strong”>Don’t worry about tolls ! </strong”>
Finding a place to park in city centres can be a problem with any sized vehicle, but I must agree with Snowman that it will be much harder the bigger is your vehicle. I don’t know what your planned itinerary so I have no way to comment further on parking issues. In some large places, it is sometimes better to find a place to park outside the city and then use pubic transport to get into the centre of the city. If you are staying in campgrounds, that could partially solve parking problems if these are close to the cities you want to visit. But we don’t yet know where you are planning to go.

Hi, Snowman,Peterli,
Thank you for your response, We have checked and compared the transportation option by train against rental cars, which is slightly cheaper, however our real saving is in the accomodations. Our motorhomes will stay in the campsites( various locations) and we will commute by train using the ‘Half Fare’ pass.
Currently we are still in the process of drawing up the Itinerary, we will post it when finalised for comments .
Thank you , and much appreciated.
Best rgds,
KW Chia
