Leaving Zermatt on Thursday, September 19th early and plan to make our way driving to Zurich since flying back home on Sat. No definite travel route planned yet. Are there any little towns we should see along the way or stay at on Thursday night? Any area festivals we might see? We have been to Lucerne, Lake Brienz, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Any recommendations appreciated.

You should look at the Swiss MIttelland or the Jura mountains and/or the French speaking areas as a contrast to the high Alps. Enjoy the rolling pastures and arable land and farming villages. Also there are some strategic/fortified/Roman towns such as Romont and Avenches. Also lakes Neuchatel and Biel have lovely wine roads and villages

    Hi Leod,

Hallwyl Castle in Seengen is also very nice, or Rapperswil. Also Schwyz (the capital of the canton of Schwyz) is nice for a stop if you are driving from that direction. All of them are part of the Grand Tour, the scenic car route of Switzerland.

If you are not in a hurry, better not to drive on the highway. It takes longer, but you see much more from the country.
