Hi,

I am wanting to travel from Geneva airport to Lausanne, from Lausanne to Zermatt and from Zermatt back to Geneva airport. What is the best way to do this by train? I am getting bogged down in all of the different passes and prices and companies! Thanks

Hi Dexter and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes, there are many options here in Switzerland! If you are only taking the train on the 3 instances you mention above you may want to just purchase point to point tickets when in Switzerland.

But if you are taking any trips up into the mountains etc from these towns you may want to buy the Swiss Half Fare Card to give you 50% off all train tickets you buy once in country.

Lastly, if you think you will be taking several excursions up the mountains (Like Gornergrat and/or Klein Matterhorn in Zermatt, plus say a boat cruise etc. on Lake Geneva) than you may be best served with a Swiss Travel Pass.

The Swiss Travel Pass covers virtually all buses, boats and trains in Switzerland, plus gives discounts on mountain excursions like Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn.

Does that help a little?
In the end It's about how often you get on public transit here and to work out the cost of point to point tickets and compare to the rail passes.
