    Hello Experts!

We will be staying in Spiez and planning to rent a car for 3 days. As we are renting a car , not planning to buy Swiss travel pass. But we want to take one scenic train ride.which train pass should we buy to see the mountains (cheaper). Can we Drive to Grindelwald and from there to Jungfrau by train?

    Please advice!

    Thanks!

Hello Deeti and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Yes you can drive to Grindelwald and catch the train to Jungfraujoch. You will need to pay for parking.

If that is the only train/boat/cable-car travel you plan then there is no pass that will help you.

You don’t say how you are getting to Spiez or how many are in your party. Have you read http://www.myswissalps.com/ca rversustrain?

As well as the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) there are many regional passes (http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpasses) which can work depending on where you are based and how much travel you plan. Before you can know for sure which pass suits your travel plans you need to do the sums based on the cost of all your planned trips on trains, boats, cable cars etc. You can use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to work out the fares for any trip. When you go to buy a ticket the fare you see on the right hand side of the page will normally be the half-fare price. Double it to get full fare. With A Swiss Travel Pass it is free provided it is shown as free on the Area of Validity map ( PDF downloadable from http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity).

You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass).

Day 1-On the way to spiez we are planning to stop at Lucerne and Interlaken. Site seeing and explore the town.

Day 2 – planning to go to lake Geneva and montreux. Also Planning to explore Grindelwald. And train ride to Jungfraujoch.

Is there any other train/ boat ride that we can take for site seeing ? Please advice.

Day 3- Bern and another tourist attraction (still not sure)- can you please advice?

Day 4- Explore Zurich city and museum before our flight to Italy at 5 pm.

    Hi Deeti-

Your pan has some route duplication that is not necessary.

<<“Day 1-On the way to spiez we are planning to stop at Lucerne and Interlaken.”>>

Take a look at this map to help you understand the geography and the relationships between the cities:

    map.search.ch/?pos=678528,205312&z=2

If you zoom in to zoom level 32, the train lines become visible.

<<“We will pick up the car from Zurich. As We Have Only 3 Days – We Want To make Sure Our travel Is flexible Within The City. And Less Commute Time from One Place To Another Place.”>>

Not sure I understand this. If you want to save time within Zürich, use the trams, buses and S-bahn trains.

Driving a car in Zürich is difficult, and parking is really scarce and very expensive.

Day 4 – would probably be better spent in Luzern.. It is a more scenic town…near the mountains. Still easy to get to the airport by train. Not so much by car….traffic near the airport.

However, not sure of your intersts, so take a look at these two pages:
