    Hi

We are a group of 5 adults,4 teenagers (13-16) and a child coming to Switzerland on 12 Dec to 20 Dec.

In general, this is our itinerary:

12 Dec to 15 Dec – Based in Interlaken West to explore Jungfrau (weather permitting), Murren , Schiltorn, Grindelwald and First.

15 Dec to 17 Dec – Zermatt (Taking the Glacier from Zermatt to Chur)

17 Dec to 20 Dec – Zurich, Lucerne

With this itinerary in mind, I have come up with a list of possible rides that we may take on our journey. Can I get some feedback from the experts to see if I am on the right track? I have attach a picture of the excel spreadsheet that I have completed.

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards

    Boon Khim

    Hi Boon Khim!

Yes, I think most of your plans look fine. Some days are a bit ambitious (e.g. combining Schilthorn (http://www.myswissalps.com/sc hilthorn) and Jungfraujoch in one day (http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch)), but it should all be doable if you leave early. Note that weather may force you to be a bit more flexible, so it would be wise to make some back-up plans in case of clouds covering the mountain tops. There’s no day 8 in your current overview, is that correct?

In any case, I think an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass absolutely makes most sense for your itinerary: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass. For the short and relatively inexpensive ride from Zurich to the airport you can just get regular tickets: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland.

    Hi Annika,

    Thank you for your response.

I agree that combining Schiltorn and Jungfraujoch in one day is very ambitious. I made that combination with the worst case scenario in mind. Actually, I am hoping that we can cover either one of them on the day we arrive in Interlaken but that would depends on how everyone is feeling after the flight and the weather up in the mountains.

Speaking of back up plans, other than Lake Thun, Bern and Lucerne, would you recommend that we visit Mount Rigi from Interlaken since it is fully covered in the Swiss Travel Pass? or do you have any other suggestions that I could explore?

I did not input any train rides on Day 8 as most likely it will be short rides around Zurich.

    Thank you once again.

    Hi Boonkhim,

Right, I understand about your preferences to visit Schilthorn and Jungfraujoch on separate days. Rest assured though, if you only have one day due to weather or fatigue, you will be able to manage both. Just get up early and don’t spend hours and hours at the top, and you’ll be perfectly fine!

Rigi is pretty far off from Interlaken. Please refer to http://www.myswissalps.com/ri gi/gettingthere and http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. I wouldn’t do it just because it happens to be for free with the Swiss Travel Pass with Interlaken as your base town. Nor is it a great bad weather alternative, as it’s all in the outdoors and it’s mainly about the views up there. City visits to Bern (https://www.myswissalp s.com/bern), Thun (https://www.myswissalp s.com/thun), Lucerne (https://www.myswissalp s.com/lucerne), maybe even Brig (https://www.myswissalp s.com/brig), boat rides (http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakethun, http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakebrienz) and scenic train rides would all make for bad weather alternatives. So do the Trümmelbach Falls near Stechelberg, the Grindelwald glacier gorge, the Aare gorge near Meiringen and the Beatus caves near Beatenberg.
