When in Zermatt, we plan to visit both Gornergrat and Matterhorn. To view Matterhorn from Riffelsee, do we need to get a seperate train ticket if we stop by at Rotenboden Station?. Our planned trip is:

    1. In the morning, take train from Zermatt to Gornergrat. Spend the morning at 3100 kulmhotel-gornergrat.
    2. In the afternoon, take train from Gornergrat to Roterboden. Short walk to Riffelsee for the view of Matterhorn.
    3. Take the train back to Zermatt from Roterboden Station.

    Hello billcoke,

You can cover all this with one ticket, you can get in and out of the train as much as you like during the ride up and/or down.

Have a nice trip, it’s wonderful up there!
