Is there any suggestions on a scenic train route from Lucerne to Zurich other than the most direct route that would be suggested by google etc. There will be 6 of us leaving Lucerne on a Wednesday morning/afternoon traveling to Zurich and staying there Wednesday night to take our flight back to US on Thursday. (traveling with luggage). So any trip that may take 2-4 hours or so on Wednesday should be fine. We will have a Swiss Travel Pass. The trip will be at the end of this month.

    thank you

    Hi Lcrecelius11,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps!

Option 1: Voralpen Express to St. Gallen, change for Zurich airport there. A very nice ride along rolling hills. Sit on the right until Wattwil, after that the left has the better views. St. Gallen to Zürich is ok but not extraordinary.

Option 2: via the boat and train to the top of the Rigi, then down to Arth-Goldau and to Zurich. Great panoramic views, but less convenient with luggage as it’s at least 3 changes.

All of the above is free with a Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity.

Variation on Option 1 – Instead of going through to St Gallen, change at Rapperswil and follow eastern shore of Lake to Zurich?

Option 3 – Take paddle steamer Luzern to Brunnen then train to Zurich?
