Hi Kennethm and welcome to MySwissAlps!
Yes the Swiss Transfer Ticket will be valid from Basel airport. You can use it to go anywhere in Switzerland (as long as it is by the most direct/quickest route as given to you buy the Swiss timetables). I assume you are going farther than downtown Basel?

Lucas, thank you very much for your prompt reply. We are going to Wengen on Saturday afternoon. Your reply prompts me to ask another question if you will bear with me. Does the “most direct/quickest route” mean that we have to take the Basel – Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen service and not the Basel – Spiez – Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen services?

Hi Kennethm,
You’ll need to take a route suggested by the timetable (link above) when you search for Basel to Wengen. Trains from Basel to Interlaken all go through Spiez – some have a change in Spiez while most are direct to Interlaken.
You can see the route and the towns the train goes through on the timetable – just click the + sign to expand.

Indeed, “direct” means the shortest or quickest route in this case. Whether it’s a direct train with no changes does not matter.

A Swiss Transfer Ticket will save you about CHF8 total compared to a return ticket Basel EuroAirport to Wengen. What other travel in Switzerland do you have planned?
If more the just that return trip then you might want to read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass).

We are just doing the Basel – Wengen return. Thank you for taking the time to post replies. My queries have been answered.
