My family will be traveling from Milan to Zermatt, do you recommend getting the Eurail Pass? If not, which website do you recommend using to purchase train tickets?

Hello Jill and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
It’s difficult to answer that question without knowing more about your itinerary, if Milan to Zermatt is your only travel in Italy then a Swiss Travel System Pass is probably better for you. When are you travelling? Are there children in your party?
See http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy and http://www.myswissalps.com/train.
Based on your personal itinerary you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it’s valid” page for all available passes. Be sure to check those pages for each pass you are considering. Study the map AND read all the text on those pages to fully understand what is covered by the respective pass.

Our plan is to travel from Milan to Zermatt, and stay in Zermatt for 2 nights 3 days. We want to explore any kid friendly activities including snow sledding/tobogganing. The Glacier Express ride is a possibility but I have to do more research. Any advise/recommendations on transportation and things to do is very much welcome!
rockoysterParticipant8889 posts29 December 2019 at 22:05:58 #927098What time of year? Where do you plan to depart Switzerland? Are you going anywhere else in Europe after that?
Your daughter will travel free with a Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/swissfamilycard) which is available for free when acquired in conjunction with a Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass) or Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard).
That’s why I asked about children.

Milan to Zermatt stay in Zermatt for 3 days. Then back to Milan. That will be it.
rockoysterParticipant8889 posts29 December 2019 at 23:12:37 #927100OK. Then the Glacier Express is not an option for you unless you want to return to Milan via Andermatt and Lugano; which is a bit of a long way round and does not cover the best parts of the Glacier Express route.

In addition to information and links that rockoyster provided for you, I have included a trusted and convenient purchase link for the Swiss Travel Pass, in case that is what you decide on:
Depending on what your plans are when you are Switzerland, the Swiss Travel Pass will give you better coverage and benefits over the Eurail Pass. The Swiss Travel Pass gives you unlimited travel throughout Switzerland, discounts on mountain top trips and free museum entrances.
The Eurail Pass only covers regional lines and there are no discounts on local lines, boat services, and mountain top excursions. The details are outlined here:
- http://www.myswissalps.com/eurailglobalpass/validity
- http://www.myswissalps.com/eurailglobalpass/price
I have attached a link on Zermat and suggested activites:
The chocolate factory tours are often a hit for the children. I will attach a link about that and snow fun activities:
Here are links about traveling from Italy to Switzerland:
I hope this helps. In the meanwhile, I wish you and your family all the best for 2020!
Best regards,
Suzanne
