Travelling from Spiez to Milan in September

God willing, we will be traveling by rail from Grindelwald to Milan on Sept. 15. The plan is: Grindelwald to Interlaken, Interlaken to Spiez, Spiez to MIlan. We have the Swiss Travel Pass so I know we are covered for all legs except Spiez to Milan.

So my question is how/where do we purchase a ticket for this leg using our STP so we only pay for the portion we need to?

Also, this is a long trip with many short connections. Wondering if there are toilets on the trains? Are we permitted to eat snacks on the trains?

Thank you so much! These forums have helped us so much in our planning!

    Hi MegandChris,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Your Swiss Travel Pass is valid for travel until the border (Chiasso if you are travelling via Lugano). Beyond that you will need to get an extension ticket for your journey to Milan. You can find information about how to buy train tickets to Italy here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy

For your information most Swiss inter-city trains are equipped with WC/toilets, and some even have a restaurant. And yes, you are allowed to consume food and beverages on the trains.

    Have a pleasant trip.

    Regards,

    Anna

If you board the train to Italy in Spiez I assume you’ll be traveling via Domodossola. That’s where validity of your pass ends, please see the map: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

    Enjoy the ride!
