    Hi guys,

I am travelling with the spouse for the first time so just want to plan everything perfectly including it making it cost effective so that this trips become memorable for both of us. Below is what I have planned.

So far I have only booked

Flight from India to Paris on 13 Dec and

Fly back on 22 Dec from Paris back to India

    Hotels 13-15 in Paris

Hotels 16-20 in Switzerland, Planning to book one more hotel in Switzerland.

I have not booked any transport when I reach Paris and Switzerland.

I am thinking of two things

    1) Take the Eurorail and Swiss Rail pass combined for 10 days which cost CHF 817( after 15% discount for Travelling together) which I am assuming it would cover all the traveling in France and Switzerland.

    http://www.eurail.com/en/eura il-passes/select-pass/two-country/france-switzerland

I am not sure if I will get 50% discount also on Travelling in Special venues in France and Switzerland but I do plan to visit some of the areas like Schilthorn Mürren, Bernese Oberland. If I will not get the discount on tourist places which is covered by Swiss Travel pass , I will not opt for this one as I plan to stay in swiss for the most of my time. I also think this would give me free tickets from Paris to Geneva and then Geneva to Zurich but I understand it will take 8 hours

    Total cost = 817.55 CHF

    2) Take 30 Tickets in France of 45 Euro (50 CHF) which should be good enough of travelling in Paris, but I am again not sure about the discount for Eiffel Tower or Museum.

Cost of Travelling by Air from Paris to Zurich = 350 CHF – Preferred as it will take only 1 hours

Cost of Travelling by Train from Paris to Geneva( I will travel via Swiss or Euro pass) = 340 CHF and Travel from Geneva to Bern. – This might take me 6 hours.

Take Swiss Travel pass for 5 days, being given to Indian 590 CHF

    Total cost = 50+350+590= 990 CHF

    http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/swiss-travel-pass-extra-bonus-days-promotion

I am not fussy about extra 180 CHF given in 2 option but if I get one pass for all things I will take it.

Also I would need the advice in relation to the specific Tourist places that I should visit in Switzerland. I would like to explore Snow and Beautiful views.

Hi Ankit981155 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You can see exactly what the Eurail Passes cover in Switzerland here: http://www.myswissalps.com/eu railselectpass/validit y – note that you aren’t buying a “combined Eurail with Swiss Travel Pass. It is just a Eurail Pass that offers coverage in 2 countries of your choice. It won’t give the same benefits in Switzerland as the Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity

Don’t underestimate travel time by plan between Paris and Zurich. Trains leave from downtown Paris. Once you factor in travel time to and from airports, security lines etc etc. your 1 hour trip gets much closer to the 4 hour train trip from downtown Paris to downtown Zurich. http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

For ideas on what to do in Switzerland, please have a look at our suggestions here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities

If your focus is on mountains, landscapes and snow, you are best off staying in a town closer to the mountains than Bern. I would look at Lucerne, or a village in the Jungfrau region noted here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion

    Hi Lucas,

Thanks for the Tip and the Advice

I will not take the Eurail pass now, I will only opt for the Swiss Travel pass, but the problem is that I will be there for 7 days should I take a 8 days Pass now?

Also I may plan to extend my trip by 1 day lasting ending on 23, so Would it be possible to travel from Paris to Geneva by Regional train which takes 8 hours in case that would not cost me less plus I get to see the views? What would be cost if I travel by regional Trains?

Instead of taking Hotel in Zurich on 20th, 21 & 22 I will take my hotel in are which is Near to Jungfraujoch Probably Interlaken as most of the activities are near to Interlaken.

I plan to visit the following places definitely in Switzerland. Should I book the tickets in advance or they remain the same price and I can just take it when I go there?

    1) The Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch

    2) Snowshoe Tour from Interlaken – Probably it will be covered in as the walk is from The Jungfraujoch

    3) Ski or Snowboard Rental Package from Interlaken – Would this place allow snowboarding for beginners?

    4) Boat trips on Lake Geneva http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakegeneva

    5) The Rhine Falls http://www.myswissalps.com/rh inefalls

    Thanks for Lovely advice.

    Hi Ankit,

Yes an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/price) makes sense on a 7 day stay. Even on a 6 day stay it often saves you money – but it depends on your travel plans each day.

I’m not sure which regional train to Paris takes 8 hours. Are you trying to avoid direct trains there? I don’t have information on our site about the train trips in Paris unfortunately, but prices for various trains to Paris from Geneva can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/france/pric e

Ticket prices don’t fluctuate so you can buy them ahead of time on our site or when you are there without issue. I don’t have details on ski/snowboarding packages in Interlaken but most mountains in the area have areas and runs for beginners yes. The shop may have suggestions for you. If you’ve never gone skiing or snowboarding before I highly recommend booking lessons.

Hi Lucas thanks for the advice.

I have booked my Hotel now from 20-22 at InterLaken.

I am going to take the 8 Days swiss Pass.

The only thing which is left is booking the Train or Plane from paris to Zurich.

The flight is costing me 300 CHF with 23+7+7+ KG of Luggage, the Train is costing me

276 via Train, I will take the train so that I will not have baggage issues.

I will continue visiting the forum and will make my to-do list.

    Thanks a Ton LUCAS
