Hi have booked our tickets to Europe and plant to visit Switzerland after Paris.

Disappointing after booking tickets we have heard on few post that it’s not safe for infants.

We are travelling with two kids 14 months old and a 5 year old. We were planning to go to Titlis or Junfrau. But don’t know what to do as we have read that it not recommended for infants to go up there.

also any suggestion of 6 night stay and places keeping the children in mind would be appreciated

    Hi Niteshjethan, welcome to MySwissAlps!

It’s not necessarily unsafe to visit mountain tops with an infant. The main problem is that people can get sick at higher altitudes, but with infants it’s hard to tell whether or not they suffer from such issues and thus to act upon. Most people do fine if they take it slow up there. I would recommend to consult your pediatrician. Or, to be 100% safe, just avoid peaks above 2500 m. There are plenty of other peaks to visit below that altitude. Please see http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/naturalsites/ mountains for suggestions.

    Hi,

This has been discussed on previous threads and you can do a Google search as well. The medical literature says that a full term , healthy infant has the same risk as an adult for altitude sickness. But Arno’s Point is most important than an infant can’t tell you if they get any symptoms. That being said, I would guess a short visit (1 hour) would likely be OK for peaks 10- 12,0000 feet or below. Mark
