Please can you tell me whether we can get from Basel to Lucerne directly. There seems to be a dotted line in the middle and I’m not sure what this means. Does anyone know the cost the cogwheel train up Mount Pilatus. Thanks

    Hi Walkfan,

Yes there are direct trains from Basel to Lucerne (not every train is direct though) you can use the Swiss railways timetable to find all your options.

If you are referring to the dashes on the Swiss Travel Pass validity map (?) they indicate tunnels on the rail lines. Dotted lines indicate a reduced price for Swiss Travel Pass holders on the route (it doesn’t reflect if the journey is direct or not though).

You can find ticket prices for Mt. Pilatus here. With a Swiss Travel Pass you get 50% off the trip from Alpnachstad or Kriens.
