Im going to write this trip report in brief points under different headings:

Our Gang: Friends from London ,five of us,no family or children, first time to Switzerland

    Time- September 10-13,2018

    Departure point: London Heathrow

Arrival: Zurich ,by Swiss Air ,Terminal 2 ,for those travelling by public transport the train station is just outside terminal 2 after baggage claim, clearly signposted we didnt have to ask anyone for directions.

Mode of transport used in Switzerland: Public transport only,we took the 4 day Swiss Travel Pass, costs us around 206 GBP,you can buy it online before travelling, print it out using A4 paper. The Swiss transport system is very efficient and on time by seconds, comfortable and have 1st and 2nd class, sometimes its difficult to find which one is first and second class even though its written 1 or 2 outside the carriage and also inside.

Places visited: mainly the Bernese Oberland and Junfrau regions namely Jungfraujoch (Top Of Europe experience), Gimmelwald, Grindelwald, Paragliding in Lauterbrunnen, Trummelbach Fall.

Nature of Visit: Mainly to experience nature and thats why we chose this region

Base: we based ourselves in Lauterbrunnen, we stayed in Valley hostel which was economical and had good connectivity

Dealing with currency: we used Revolut card for all our spending in Switzerland, efficient and no transaction fee, even though Ive heard people say that cards are widely accepted we did encounter places which accepted cash only namely touristy destinations and we found it difficult to buy souveniers, some places do accept euro and gbp and usd. so its good to carry some CHF while travelling

Food: since we stayed in hostel we were able to minimise costs by cooking some basic stuff by buying groceries from nearby Coop,Water is pure and was readily available in fountains alongside the roads, not sure is the other regions of Switzerland have the same facilities.

Clothing: it was warm and we didnt require any warm cloths at all, only in Jungfrau did we use some warm cloths, otherwise its good to carry cotton and light woolens, heavy winter clothing is not advised in this part of Switzerland during this time. That being said mountain weather can be unpredictable also.

Visa: Since we are Indian passport holders we needed a Schengen visa ,usually takes 3 working days to come with 3 months validity only if applied for Switzerland.

Resources used for our travel: we organised every part of the trip by ourselves using help from this forum mainly and Tripadvisor ,wikitravel

    Any questions ,Happy to answer

    Thanks for your report Fenojleslie!

Indeed carrying Swiss Francs on you is important as you note. We always recommend this: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfranc

I’ve never heard of a Revolut card, looks interesting.

Good notes on weather and clothing for the mountains too.

Happy travels and I hope you can get back someday!
