Hi all and thanks for helping us.

We a couple shall be in Switzerland from 17/06 to 24/06 and made our base in Interlaken. We are spending a night in Zermatt on 19/06 and shall be coming from Interlaken by Train. We already have STP for 8 days.

Please tell us the most scenic route to travel from Interlaken to Zermatt and also what time we start to reach Zermatt to enjoy Gorengrat by evening and back to our hotel in Zermatt.

Next morning we plan to leave early from Zermatt and go to Montreux, Do Geneva Lake, Chilon Castle as also some speed boating as it is included in STP. After doing this we want to come back to Interlaken from Golden pass route as we are booked for that night there.

Kindly guide us how we can do this trip as we don’t mind stretching us a bit. Thanks and regards. Kiran

    Hi Visitkiran5-

<<“please tell us the most scenic route to travel from Interlaken to Zermatt”>>

All of your questions except the one above are best answered by using the SBB timetable. Because there are few tips on how to use it most effectively, you should start at this link:

<<“and also what time we start to reach Zermatt to enjoy Gorengrat by evening and back to our hotel in Zermatt. “>> Gornergrat, not Gorengrat.

    Don’t know abut the speedboat.

The answer your first query can be very complex. If we do not apply time constraints, you can put almost any place in Swityerland on your route thus making it extremely scenic. 😉 Just joking, of course.

However, as practical matter, assuming direct routes, you have two choices. Instead of the fastest ( via Spiez and the new boring tunnel under the Alps to Visp), take the old route, through Spiez, via Kandersteg, to Brig, on a train called the Lötschberger. It goes up to Kandersteg, through a short tunnel, and comes out above the Rhone Vallley. Then, down to Brig,, where you change for Visp and Zermatt.

One hour longer and well worth the trip.

On your Golden Pass route return, use the timetable and insert Zweisimmen as a “via” location between Montreux and Interlaken.

    Hello Visitkiran5,

Please see here for what’s included in the Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity. Speed boats are not included but regular boats are.
